MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality says it is taking a zero tolerance approach to illegal dumping.
Last week, two perpetrators were issued a R1 000 fine each for dumping building rubble illegally.
The municipality has adopted a GROW strategy, one of the aims of which is to grow the environment. Illegal dumping is therefore viewed in an extremely serious light.
While illegal dumping remains an issue in certain neighbourhoods, residents are also requested to abide by waste management by-laws pertaining to putting out their refuse bags for removal.
Garbage collection
Refuse bags should be put out for collection at 07:00 on the scheduled collection days, the municipality says. Refuse bags placed out the night before are often torn open by animals or people living on the streets.
As per Section 6 of the Refuse Removal by-law, the municipality may issue an instruction to occupiers of properties regarding how refuse is to be presented for collection. It is an instruction in terms of the Refuse Removal By-law that occupiers of properties should place refuse bags on sidewalks at 07:00 on refuse removal days.
According to Section 5 of the Refuse Removal by-law only domestic waste can be placed in black refuse bags. Non-compliance in this regard can thus result in notices, fines and or summons to court.
