MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Dube Street residents, who for quite some time were intimidated by informal dwellers who illegally connected to the electricity network at poles on their property, were given a measure of respite last week.
An additional low voltage line consisting of 150 metres of low voltage aerial bundle conductor and six poles were last week erected in the vicinity of Dube Street to address the overload conditions and to provide additional security lighting in the informal settlement.
At the same time illegal connections were removed from the poles along Dube Street.

Residents with legal electricity supply and connections complained bitterly for almost a year about intolerable conditions.
At the affected houses residents regularly suffered electricity outages when overload conditions - the result of illegal connections - would trip the supply.
A video was shared on 10 April on social media of sparks flying as a fire destroyed the electricity connection at one of the poles. This incident caused the entire area to be without electricity supply until approximately midnight.
According to feedback, residents are very thankful for the new installation and especially for the security lighting that was erected.
