Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In February and March there was a disturbing outbreak of distemper on the Garden Route.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser enquired of the Garden Route SPCA whether the number of cases had diminished over the past few months.
The Mossel Bay area was not greatly affected during the outbreak.
This week GR SPCA Mossel Bay unit branch manager said: "There are much fewer cases, although we had few cases to begin with.
"I think the fewer cases might also be because the season has changed."
GR SPCA senior manager Frieda Jansen van Rensburg, based in George, said: "We do get the odd case with distemper symptoms now.
"The dog has bad balance, is lame in the lower half of the body and there is mucus coming from the nose, but the cases are few now and the distemper problem is under control in our area."
