After the fires that devastated several hectares of veld directly next to Dana Bay in December, residents increased their insistance on an alternative, emergency exit to assist traffic flow in case of an emergency. This followed after smoke and the threat of fire caused the only access to the suburb to be closed to traffic on several occasions.
Residents have also on several occasions insisted that a solution be found for the congestion of work seekers at the entrance to Dana Bay. Employers fetching their workers at this intersection cause dangerous conditions as vehicles do not adhere to traffic rules.
Furthermore, the increasing number of incidents along Louis Fourie Road has given rise to a continued insistence that the safety concerns of residents be addressed.
This follows after yet another incident along Louis Fourie Road in the past week in which a young woman sustained lacerations to her face that required treatment in emergency unit of the Life Bay View Hospital. On Tuesday, 4 April at approximately 21:30 a stone was hurled at the vehicle she was a passenger in. The stone smashed the side window.
Prior to this, a resident reported that his vehicle sustained damage when it was hit with a stone along Louis Fourie Road on March 29. Prior to that, a local Councillor’s vehicle was one of two targeted in an early morning attack at the entrance to Dana Bay on 4 March.
On 27 February a man who walked his son home to Dana Bay was attacked along Louis Fourie Road and was robbed of belongings by armed perpetrators.
On December 6, 2016, three women were left in the lurch when armed men hijacked their vehicle.
