MOSSEL BAY NEWS - This week Mossel Bay residents were excited to see that the Wolwedans Dam near Great Brak River was overflowing for the first time in nine years.
It is the dam which supplies water to the greater Mossel Bay area.
This followed heavy rainfall on Monday, 23 November. The dam started to overflow on Monday at about 12:45.
Municipal spokesperson Ronell du Toit says the dam last overflowed in 2012.
A total of 73mm of rain was measured at the Wolwedans Dam this week.
Residents of The Island in Great Brak River, near the dam, were placed on high alert because of the chance of flooding. Fortunately the water level in the Great Brak River subsided and no evacuations were needed as the Great Brak estuary was manually breached on 17 November.
Rainfall between 20mm and 80mm was measured between Mossel Bay and Great Brak River, bringing relief to local farmers and residents.
