KNYSNA NEWS - A contract worker employed by Knysna Municipality has tested positive for Covid-19.
This according to a statement on the municipality's Facebook page this morning (Friday 8 May).
Acting Municipal Manager Dr Michele Gratz said that they immediately took the required steps when they received the results.
“The worker was placed in quarantine with his family and his co-workers were tested this morning by the Knysna Provincial Hospital. They will be closely monitored over the next few days.
"As with all our offices, the area he frequented at work was disinfected and cleaned. All our staff is required to wear PPE and screened daily. Social distancing measures are also practised in all our workspaces. Please be assured that all essential services will continue, as promised.”
She said the tracing process to find those that he has been in contact with outside the workplace has started and that they are assisting the Health Department at the Knysna Provincial Hospital where they can.
“The safety of our staff and residents is our first priority. However it is not just up to us, we need the buy-in from residents and I call on all residents to follow the prescribed Covid-19 preventative measures.
"We are still in lockdown – stay home when you can, and if you have to go out, make sure to wash and disinfect your hands regularly. Do not touch or shake hands with anyone, wear your mask and keep a social distance of a minimum of 1,5m. Stay safe.”
