MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following a think tank at the end of October, during which women councillors from the Mossel Bay municipal council, representing various constituencies in the greater Mossel Bay area put their heads together, plans to empower local women are well under way.
The aim of the workshop was to champion the process of developing women in business, as well as vulnerable groups, specifically the aged and differently abled, to enable better economic development opportunities within the Mossel Bay economy.
The main drive is to focus on health and wealth, thereby ensuring better living conditions for all members of the community.
The project in planning will be co-partnered by the Mossel Bay Municipality, The BEE Corp and the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), with the women councillors acting as change agents in the implementation.
A follow-up strategic planning session will be held at Mooiste Jy, a venue in Marsh Street, where the representatives of the different ward committees' portfolio (business, health, women empowerment) will be invited to discuss the needs that have been identified in all 14 wards in Mossel Bay. Their assistance in the implementation of the project will also be fine tuned.
The predominant findings of the think tank were: "The living conditions of vulnerable communities are a plight that should be addressed locally, not only during 16 Days of Activism against Women and Child Abuse. They should be 365 days of activism."
"This programme is an enabler to achieve transformation and economic sustainability for our vulnerable communities and requires the support and participation of everyone in Mossel Bay."
"The project goes hand in hand with the start of the 16 Days of Activism on 25 November."
