MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Whether she is handing out meals to the less privileged or donating blankets to the homeless in winter, Camlyn Stevens seems to be unable to stop herself from lending a helping hand wherever she goes.
A member of the Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club Nippers for the past two years, Cami as she is fondly called, was training with her group at Santos Beach last Wednesday, when a distraught German woman approached the children to ask them if they had seen her sunglasses. They replied, "no".
Returning to the water, Cami noticed something purple in front of her. "I yelled 'a fish', but then I realised fish aren't purple."
Grabbing the object in front of her, she immediately realised it was the German tourist's sunglasses.
Watch a video below:
Accompanied by some other members of the training group, she ran after the tourist to return the sunglasses. "We got some exercise," she laughs.
"The lady was so happy, she gave us money to donate to the Nippers." Photographer Donovan Poole happened to be on the beach at the time, took some pictures of what had happened and posted them on social media, paying tribute to Cami.
Were they expensive glasses? "Yes," she nods. "They were not South African."
A new cause
Cami, as part of her charity work, has taken on a new project.
She has become aware of a need to provide toiletries to the elderly.
Not once off, if possible, but on a sustainable basis.
Anyone who would like to join her drive to make a difference and contribute, can find her on facebook at Cami's Happy Hands.
