MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus has proved that where there is a will, there is a way.
Trudi Stander, founder and host of the annual Cake Off competition has announced she is hosting this calendar highlight online.
"Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic we are going to do things a little different this year. Each town will be allocated one day this week for the Cake Off. If you stay in Mossel Bay/Hartenbos, George and Oudtshoorn, you are invited to be part of our very first online Cake Off Garden Route Competition," says Stander.
The theme set out is High Tea During #lockdown. Each contestant must bake and decorate the following according to the theme.
- 1 x cake
- 12 x creative doughnuts
- 12 x meringues
Each contestant needs to send before, during and after photos and a short video the day before their town's Cake Off to the organiser. "We will post your photos the next day on our website for judges (60%) and public (40%) to vote."
The dates are as follows:
- Wednesday, 22 April l Oudtshoorn
- Thursday, 23 April l George
- Friday, 24 April l Mossel Bay/ Hartenbos
After the vote, the cake will be auctioned in the particular town. "Only people in your town can take part in the auction, because we need to arrange delivery."
Each auction will start at R200. The proceeds will be split between the contestant, the town's municipal food parcel project and marketing and advertising costs.
"The winner from each town will compete in a finale in the first week of May."
Entry is free. Please register by sending a Whatsapp to Trudi Stander at 079 232 9085.
