MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services showed their mettle during a particularly busy time last weekend. In just under 48 hours, the crew responded to:
- A motor vehicle accident on the N2 at Island View.
- The drowning of a 43-year-old man in a stormwater catchment dam, Wolwedans residential area. The circumstances of the death have not yet been determined.
- A rubbish fire in Terence Ndanda Street, JCC.
- Two shack fires - one in Olifant Street and another in Calitzdorp Street, KwaNonqaba.
- A vegetation fire at Paradise Coast, Dana Bay.
- A skip fire in Alhof Drive, D'Almeida.
Aside from their normal duties as first responders, safeguarding communities, the crew are also working hard in preparation for the Toughest Firefighter Alive challenge in Mossel Bay from 5 to 7 October, part of the Mossel Bay Sport and Recreation Festival.
The TFA returns to Mossel Bay for a second year, following record participation last year. This year, Mossel Bay is once again entering a men's team and in addition, a women's team as well as six individual competitors.
The competition takes place at De Bakke and will once again include a junior challenge. Due to its popularity and growth, the contest been extended to include an extra day, making it three action-packed days.
