BUSINESS NEWS - George will once again welcome players, supporters, and visitors from across South Africa for three days of social tournaments and festival fun.
Hosted by Dotsure, the event will combine competitive sport and summertime entertainment, with team entries now open for registration.
The festival offers an opportunity to celebrate local sporting talent and showcase George as a destination for bringing communities together.
Creating opportunities for Southern Cape rugby
Heyneke Meyer, Dotsure SWD Eagles Head Coach, believes events such as the George Tens have an important role to play in developing club rugby talent and widening participation in the sport.
“We’ve got so much talent in the Southern Cape, and we need to create as many opportunities as possible for young players to develop and showcase their abilities,” says Meyer.
He points to the opportunities that can emerge when players are given a platform to compete and demonstrate their potential, including school bursaries and opportunities to progress to higher levels of the game.
The Tens format also offers an engaging challenge for players and coaches. Combining the speed and pace of sevens with the physicality and set pieces of traditional rugby, it rewards fitness, skill, teamwork, and quick decision-making.
For clubs preparing for the season ahead, the tournament can provide a competitive environment in which to build match fitness and work on key aspects of their game.
The Dotsure Cup brings big-team rugby to George
Rugby supporters can also look forward to the Dotsure Cup, which will feature a few professional regional rugby teams, including our very own Dotsure SWD Eagles!
The inclusion of these teams gives local supporters another reason to look forward to the action at Outeniqua Park Stadium.
Further competition details and fixtures will be communicated as they are confirmed.
A Sports Festival with local appeal
The Dotsure George Tens will offer more than healthy competition, with food, beer tents, and entertainment contributing to the atmosphere.
For George and the wider Garden Route, the event presents an opportunity to welcome visitors to enjoy the region’s beaches, scenic mountains, restaurants, and outdoor activities alongside the tournament.
“Sports have the incredible power to unite people. It doesn’t matter where you come from, how old you are, or what your background is. It builds friendships and creates a sense of belonging,” says Meyer.
That spirit is central to the event’s ambition of creating a gathering where locals and visitors can make lasting memories.
