Lourens Roos writes:
Mozambik Restaurant and the ex-Yacht Club has a disgusting building.
The writer finds it unbelievable that the municipality can let a restaurant business trade in a building in this state.
Please send this to the mayor and municipal manager, as well as the Health Department. We have moved from KZN, and trading in buildings like this would not be allowed.
The TNPA (owner of the building) responds:
The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) confirms that Mozambik Restaurant and the ex-Yacht Club building within the Port of Mossel Bay limits is safe for the intended use.
The TNPA has been implementing a phased approach regarding the refurbishment and maintenance of the ex-Yacht Club area and surrounding facilities. Phase 1 focused on upgrading the road, which included creating additional parking bays with proper markings and refurbishing the ablution facilities located within the ex-Yacht Club building.
This phase was completed in October 2024. Phase 2 is currently in the feasibility stage. It includes upgrading the sewage station, increasing the number of ablution facilities in the recreational area and performing minor structural maintenance and repairs.
Although phase 2 is still underway, with completion planned for the fourth quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, the TNPA has prioritised the exterior appearance of the ex-Yacht Club building and will conduct necessary repairs and maintenance by mid-December 2025 as an interim measure.
The TNPA remains committed to fulfilling its statutory obligations and ensuring that port infrastructure is maintained to appropriate standards for tenants, port users and the broader public.
