MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Ridgeview Primary School in Mossel Bay was this year’s location for the Garden Route Festival, a dance competition hosted by the Western Cape Federation of Dance Sport.
About 160 talented dancers from across the Western Cape, including Mossel Bay, George, Cape Town and Beaufort West, recently took to the floor to show off their smooth dance moves, competing in 44 categories across various age groups in the dance styles of ballroom and Latin dance.
Competitors who elegantly glided across the school hall ranged from the age of five to 73.
The festival will be held annually as a way of reviving ballroom and Latin dancing in the Eden district.
Natasha Groenewald, competitions director for the Western Cape Federation of Dance Sport, says the event will alternate between Mossel Bay and George each year, giving dancers across the region the opportunity to compete and to grow the sport in the province.
