MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three suspects, two men (aged 31 and 42) and a woman (33), made an appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 22 July on charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances and attempted murder, after they were arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 40-year-old man on Diaz Beach on Sunday 5 July.
According to a spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, the victim was reading on his iPad on Diaz Beach on the day of the incident when he was approached by the suspects.
They allegedly stabbed him three times in the back with a sharp object and stole his iPad, before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim attempted to pursue the suspects, but was unsuccessful.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His current condition is not yet known.
Shortly after the investigation was opened with the Da Gamaskop Police, the three suspects were arrested and the iPad was recovered and returned to the victim.
They appeared in court on Wednesday for the continuation of their bail applications, the outcome of which was not yet known by the time of going to press.
The police’s investigation into the matter continues.
