MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A highlight on the visual arts calendar in Mossel Bay is the art exhibition by the students of visual educator, Estelle McIlrath.
They work during the year, stretching themselves to produce fine works of arts, which go on display in the Shell Museum at the Dias Museum Complex.
McIlrath's students, who include pre-schoolers up to geriatrics, then have a grand opening for their exhibition, celebrated by family and friends. The exhibition opened on 9 December and will be running until mid-February at the museum. Enty is free.
Art lovers visiting Mossel Bay during the season will be happy to learn that McIlrath is hosting several fun workshops.
No experience is needed and anyone is welcome, from eight year olds to 85 year olds. Workshops are run at the Dias Museum and include scraper board work and "nature's tools".
A scrimshaw and Inuit craft art workshop will be held at the Harry Giddey Park and further workshops at McIlrath's studio in Dana Bay include self portraiture, encaustic painting, a clay plaque workshop. There will also be a scraperboard souvenir-making workshop at the Transport Museum in George. For more information, contact McIlrath (072 716 6419 and 044 698 2030).
