Mossel Bay's beloved train with three blue carriages, previously known as Tom, Dick and Harry, is now running for the holiday season, until 13 January. Now the train is called Powervan Mossel Bay and the three carriages, the Three Musketeers.
Previously this little train was called the Diaz Express. One of the three partners - Outeniqua Powervan - who owned the Diaz Express, bought out the other two partners.
Powervan Mossel Bay is travelling between Hartenbos and Great Brak River and back Pack a picnic and enjoy a ride with breathtaking views of the ocean, estuaries and the beautiful floral kingdom of the Garden Route.
At Great Brak River passengers have a variety of options: they can spend time at the Opispoor Pub & Grill on the railway station premises, with the tranquil panorama of the lagoon, or picnic on Great Brak Island about 10 minutes' walk from the station.
Have your choice of entertainment In Hartenbos, you have your choice of the water park, putt-putt, tenpin bowling, restaurants, coffee shops, chain stores and boutique clothing and curio shops, not to mention Hartenbos Beach.
The daily shuttle service runs every day, except for Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. There are four time slots for departures from Hartenbos, and four time slots for departures from Great Brak. Single tickets cost R85 each and a return, R170. The trip from Hartenbos to Great Brak is 30 minutes long.
There are manned ticket offices at Hartenbos Station and at Great Brak Station during the festive season. The ticket offices at the stations are open every day except Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
There is also Powervan George, which takes you on one of the most scenic rail experiences in the country.
