MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Catamaran Open Regatta was held on 6 and 7 October at the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club (MBYBC).
The weather was kind to competitors, with winds between six and 20 knots. The racing started at 11:00 on Saturday, 6 October, after a short delay, waiting for the wind.
The breeze kept building and the sailors finished the day with a welcome 20 knots.
The team of Peter de Villiers and Daleen Naude was mostly first over the line but their boat handicap counted against them and they finished second on the day.
Clive and Ashley Layland were lying first after the day's racing with five races. On the second day of racing, the wind again came through at about 11:00, with five knots building steadily.
Another five races were sailed in this moderate south-easterly and all the racing was done by 15:00. The team of Mark von Schutz and Joppie Naude made a wonderful comeback on the second day to finish the regatta in first place.
Many thanks go to the bridge crew, the race officer Dave Jones, the rescue crew and the ground crew for a wonderful event.
