MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three of the top Mossel Bay Skipper Foundation sailors are preparing to compete in the RS Tera World Challenge Trophy Championship at Ljungskile Sailing Club in Sweden from 4 to 9 August.
Ashley Layland (Point High School), Jowayden Jacobs and Ruzaide Kannemeyer (Sao Bras High School) will be flying to this prestigious event in August.
Ashley and Jowayden qualified for the South African team through a series of events they have competed in since August last year and are currently second and third in the country's RS Tera Pro Fleet leaderboard.
As a double bonus, Jowayden and Ruzaide have been awarded a sponsorship from the RS Tera class association to compete in the championships.
These boys would not be able to compete if they did not manage to secure this sponsorship. It includes the entry fee for the competition, a fully rigged charter boat and a Swedish family will be hosting them and providing most of their meals.
However, the sponsorship does not cover the sailors' flights. The money for the flights will have to be raised through other sponsors.
