MOSSEL BAY SAILING NEWS - A local sailor and learner at Milkwood Primary School, Ashley Layland (13), will be taking part in the RS Tera World Championships at the Portland National Sailing Academy in Weymouth, United Kingdom, for a week starting on 4 August.
Ashley is a member of the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club.
She sailed well in all the RS Tera selection events and placed second in the Sport Class overall standings. Last year Ashley competed at the 2017 RS Tera World Championships in Carnac, France, where she placed 42nd out of 66 boats and this year she is aiming to improve on those results.
The sailors selected to represent the South African RS Tera Association are:
Sports Class - Mossel Bay's Ashley Layland, who is the only girl who qualified, and Rhys Whitfield and James Matchette, both from Cape Town.
Pro Class - James Vonk from George and Cameron Hills and Jamie McGillivray, both from Port Elizabeth.
