This is part of the annual provincial sailing exchange programme facilitated by the Western Cape Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, which also sees groups of young South African sailors travelling to China on annually. Their next trip will be in August.
The Chinese sailors will participate in the Optimist class of the championships in Mossel Bay after also attending an Optimist training camp at the same venue.
The annual Western Cape Provincial Sailing Championships, being held from 14 to 17 April, attract sailors from across the country, from all disciplines and skill levels, as well as the country’s finest.
The event will be hosted by Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club (MBYBC), and partnered by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).
This year the competition will also incorporate the national championships for the 29er dinghy class – a high performance, fast-paced boat.
