Sadly, Jantjies has suffered an untimely broken finger and is in a race against time to be fit for the Irish series. Coupled with Jantjies injury is the season ending injury to incumbent Springbok number 10 Handre Pollard earlier this year.
New Springbok coach Allister Coetzee has few options locally and might have to look offshore for his backline general, here are a few names that could possibly be in line for selection.
PAT LAMBIE
Lambie has returned to Super Rugby for the Sharks after a lengthy absence due to a shoulder injury. He has only played two matches but has already showed his quality and value to the franchise.
In his first match back, he kicked a last minute winning penalty against the Jaguares in Argentina and followed that display up with a 23 point haul against the lowly Kings over the weekend.
The 25-year-old as stealthily racked up 50 Test caps already and should be the front runner for the Bok number 10 jersey.
JOHAN GOOSEN
Goosen burst onto the scene as an exciting fly half with ball in hand with the Cheetahs, he already has six Springbok caps and enjoyed a fine season at French Club Racing Metro this year.
Unfortunately for Goosen, he has played most of his rugby for Racing at 13 and 15 as the legendary Dan Carter occupied the fly half berth for the European Champions Cup runner’s up.
