MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Pin shooting is a relatively unknown, but rapidly growing sport in South Africa and in Mossel Bay.
It offers instant visual satisfaction for the spectator and shooter. The action is fast and adrenalin pumping.
The Mossel Bay Sport Shooting Association Pins Division is at the Reebok shooting range, on the premises of Reebok Bricks.
Pin shooting draws many target shooting enthusiasts.
The local club is affiliated to the South African Pin Shooting Federation (SAPSF). Anthony Zeeman and his brother Clarence from the local pin division said the Covid-19 pandemic set the club back a bit, but now that the lockdown is in its last stages, within the current Covid-19 regulations, all shottists are welcome to come and join.
Pin shooting originated in the USA and was the brainchild of Richard Davis of Second Chance, a manufacturor of body armour, such as fame. This informal and spectator-friendly sport has become one of the most popular of shooting sports in the US.

The objective is to shoot bowling pins off a table at a distance of 7.6 metres. This sounds easy, but as with every sport there is a catch, because the 1.6kg pins must be driven right off the table and the clock only stops when the last pin is on the ground.
The most popular calibres which participants shoot with are 9mm, pistols, .375 and .44 magnum revolvers and the trusty .45 handgun. There is either as a timed event in which the contestant challenges himself against the clock or an elimination event which is basically man against man. The individual's skill level determines the quantity of ammunition used.
Shooting bowling pins of 1.6kg each is fun. They are dynamic targets and if you hit them off-centre, they tend to fall down instead of going off the table. The objective, however, is to clear the table.
The first serious pin shooting competition was held at the Milnerton Shooting Association (MSA) on 25 February 1986. Thereafter, in about 1989, a contingent of MSA pin shooters, the Zeeman brothers Anthony (alias AB) and Clarence (Alias CJ) and others travelled to Mossel Bay, where they competed against a Mossel Bay pin shooting team.
