MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay’s sporting community is gearing up for an evening of celebration as the 2026 Mossel Bay Sports Council’s (MBSC) Sports Awards draw nearer.
The MBSC will host the awards on 23 October, in partnership with the Mossel Bay Municipality.
Nominations for deserving athletes, teams and sporting contributors close on 2 October. The coming weeks will thus allow the greater Mossel Bay sporting fraternity to reflect on the achievements of the past year and ensure that those who have made a meaningful contribution to sport receive the recognition they deserve.
The qualifying period for the 2026 awards runs from 19 July 2025 to 31 August 2026.
According to the sports council, the awards will recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to sports across the Mossel Bay community, celebrating not only the athletes who have excelled on the field, but also the coaches, administrators, volunteers, officials, schools, clubs and community builders who continue to strengthen local sports.
“A wide range of categories will be recognised, including sportsman and sportswoman of the year, sportsman and sportswoman of the year with a disability, sports club/school team of the year, coach of the year, volunteer of the year and sports administrator of the year.
“Recognition will also be given to developing school teams, technical officials, community builders, indigenous games teams and outstanding primary and secondary school athletes. The programme further includes the prestigious lifetime achiever and roll of honour categories,” the MBSC said.
According to the MBSC’s nomination criteria, achievements at district, provincial, national and international level will be considered, as well as factors such as rankings, medals, records, sporting performance, leadership, development and contribution to the wider sporting community.
The sports council encouraged affiliated clubs, sports councils and schools to nominate their deserving role players.
The winners in the various categories will also be nominated for consideration at the Eden Sports Awards.
