MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay lifesaving club, Marlin, gave an excellent performance in the Western Cape Lifesaving championships, which took place on Saturday, 2 February as part of the Mossel Bay Dias & Port Festival.
They came a superb fourth out of the 13 clubs from KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape and Eastern Cape which gathered at Santos Beach for the annual competition.

Milnerton, Llandudno and Clifton clubs were the championship winners.
The Mossel Bay lifesavers that achieved podium positions were Marlin's Sameer Matthews, Rudi Boer of Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) and Marlin's Joshua Hermanus.
Matthews won the senior men's beach sprints and took second place in the senior men's flags. Boer won second place in the senior men's beach sprints and third place in the senior men's flags. Hermanus came third in the senior men's beach sprints.
A total of 80 lifesavers competed.
World class athletes participating were Top Billing presenter Ryle de Mornay (current world champion in flags) and the Llandudno club members who won silver in the beach run in the 2018 world championships. De Mornay, of Milnerton Club, won the senior men's flags on Saturday.
MBSLC
The Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) achieved good results, coming ninth overall, considering that it entered with a team of only six (this excludes the Nippers).
Besides Rudi Boer's two podium places, in the men's open surf swim, Anton Durant came fifth and Wade Shaw 13th.
In the junior men's surf swim, Damian Smith came ninth.
AJ Stander and Anton Durant reached the semi-finals for the open board rescue.
In the women's open surf swim, Janade Shaw came seventh.
Marlin Surf Lifesaving Club is based at Santos Beach and MBSLC at Dias Beach.
The Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships first took place in 2012 as part of the Dias & Port Festival. The competition started with only eight clubs taking part.
This year 11 Western Cape clubs took part and two clubs from outside the Western Cape - Marine Surf Lifesaving Club from Durban and East London Surf Lifesavers.
