MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Ashley Layland, one of the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club rising stars, was one of the 45 newcomers in this year's World RS Tera Championships.
She placed 42nd out of 66 boats in the Sport Class, according to Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club spokesperson Elfie Holden.
"Ashley showed real steel and stayed out on the water even though her boat was taking on water. We are looking forward to seeing how she progresses in the future."
The 2017 RS Tera World Championships were held in France at the Carnac Yacht Club in Southern Brittany from 31 July to 4 August.
Seven nations competed with a total of 104 children participating in the five days of racing.
Conditions over the course of the event were variable, with oscillating breezes of six to 10 knots on the first and second day and "lumpy" seas on the third, with wave height ranging between three and six feet, according to Holden.
