GARDEN ROUTE NEWS & VIDEO - Mossel Bay played host to the Cape Pioneer Trek, which started at Milkwood Primary School in Mossel Bay on Sunday, 15 October.
The Cape Pioneer Trek is a seven day, mountain bike stage race in the Southern Cape.
In 2017 it started in Mossel Bay, traverses the Outeniqua Mountains and concludes on the rugged singletracks of the Klein Karoo.
During these seven days it visits Mossel Bay, George and Oudtshoorn, takes in the first mid-race time trial in South African mountain biking since 2012 and features the only summit finish in the off-road discipline of cycling.
In this Momentum Health-sponsored event, the changed route for the 2017 Cape Pioneer Trek mountain bike stage race will be longer, and will be featuring more climbing than the race in 2016.
The 2017 race will cover a total distance of 553km, 72km further than last year. Total vertical ascent will be 11 420m.
This is 1 030m more than in 2016.
