MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - Several plots in Mossdustria have been earmarked for development to eventually give shape to a Motorsport Mecca that will further enhance the local economy and provide an impetus for job creation.
The motorsport area envisaged will likely cater for drag racing, karting, oval track racing, drifting, spinning and gymkhana events.
The area will be developed in phases, as per the Mossel Bay municipal council's policy for the development of earmarked properties. It will consist of an existing industrial zone, space for future industrial development, a conservation area, a motorsport arena and future motorsport business development opportunities.
During the first phase, the erven in the industrial zone will be surveyed, subdivided, and provided with municipal services at the municipality's cost. These plots will be sold by public tender as prescribed in the Supply Chain Management Regulations and Policies.
Thereafter, the remaining plots in the area will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Revenue generated from the sale of these plots will be allocated to a separate Capital Replacement Reserve (CRR), which will be used exclusively for the further development of the Motorsport Mecca.
It is estimated that the sale and development of these plots will already be an economic injection into the Mossel Bay community.
Upon the completion of phase one, a report will be submitted to the council, which will then consider for approval the phases that will follow. The community will be kept informed of the development and the prescribed public participation processes will be followed.
It is envisaged the development of the motorsport component will commence during phase one.
A non-profit company will be established to manage the motorsport arena.
The municipality is already in negotiations with relevant sporting codes interested in developing and using the motorsport arena.
A public participation process will now follow and input will be submitted to the council for discussion and final approval.
