MOSSEL BAY NEWS - St Valentine would have been extremely pleased with the spirit of love and friendliness that permeated the air last Thursday, at our annual Valentine's mixed competition.
Once again most of the golfers bought into the essence of the day, dressing in a variety of reds.
Hearts adorned not only the clothing but the entire clubhouse, including the toilets.
The ladies' committee once again showed what they could do, with wonderful attention to detail.
The traditional format was a four-ball alliance, always a fantastic one, great for camaraderie and sheer pleasure.
The weather was superb and a full field (with a waiting list) of 88 players enjoyed the day thoroughly.
Our swallows, from far and wide, showed us that being on holiday in this glorious country is good for the soul and hence for your golf, walking away with most of the prizes for the day.
Congratulations to the winning team, comprising Madelien and Frank Coopman with Sally and Dave Taylor, on an excellent 96 points.
Second spot went to Marina and Ed Juta playing with Marianda and Deon de Villiers, also with 96 points, and unlucky to be counted out.
Winners of the day, from left: Dave, Madelien, Sally and Frank.
Two shots adrift on 94 and claiming third prize was the team of Martie and Paul du Toit with Gaby and Pietsch Jacobsen.
Martie and Madelien managed to nab the nearest to the pins for the ladies, while those allocated for the men went to Deon de Villiers and Dave Taylor.
The overall winners of the day, without a doubt, were love and golf!
