This is the 29th season that the night league is played in Mossel Bay. This year there are nine teams participating in the Primagas SupaSlog T20 and Mossel Bay/Spec-Savers League competitions.
The start of the evening was also the introduction of the sponsors for the year. Without the generous contribution of these sponsors, there would be no cricket and the players, as well as the management expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the following institutions:
- Sean Ekström from Primagas – SupaSlog T20
- Hannes Marais on behalf of Mossel Bay Toyota – joint league sponsor
- Ryk Smit on behalf of Spec-Savers – joint league sponsor
- Jantjie Jonker from Jakkalsvlei Wines – Man of the Match Awards
- Steyn de Jager from Midas Mossel Bay – league prizes
- The National Lottery - development.
Titan's captain, Kobus Swanepoel, won the toss and decided to bat first. On a very windy night, they posted a credible score of 135/7 in their allotted 20 overs, a score which many thought would not be enough to see them through to victory against a motivated opponent. Of their batsman, only Frikkie Theron with a top score of 29 and Michael Rherr with 24 made scores of any note.
The best bowling returns for Mossel Bay came from Gerhard Lewis, who took 3 wickets while conceding a miserly 7 runs. All together the Titans hit 14 boundaries with 13 x 4 s and 1 x 6.
Mossel Bay took to the field and scored at a very slow pace initially due to some accurate and very good tight bowling by the Titans.
Although they tried hard to pick up the pace in the latter part of their innings, it was a case of a little to late. In the end, Mossel Bay ended up just 3 runs short of the target scoring 132/5 in their 20 overs. Ronaldo Potgieter 32(no) and N Ferreira with 20 were the main contributors to this score.
On the bowling side, R Moore 1/9 and Buks Burmeister 1/8 returned the best bowling figures for the Titans. In reaching this total, Mossel Bay scored a total of 40 runs in boundaries - 10 x 4's.
In the end the score set by Titans, followed by some excellent bowling proved to be a defendable target. It was a great match played in a good spirit between two good teams and sets the tone for an exciting season ahead.
The Jakkalsvlei Man of the Match was awarded to Gerhard Lewis from Mossel Bay Cricket Club for his bowling figure of 3 wickets for 7 runs.
