MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Congratulations are most definitely in order for the athletes of Spring Tide Triathlon Academy that have been selected to represent the Eden Triathlon Association at the South African Duathlon Championships at the Midmar Dam in KwaZulu-Natal on 1 July.
Franna Vorster, a well-known coach in George and former triathlon athlete that has represented South Africa in the International Triathlon arena, is proud of his junior and elite athletes' achievements who have done extremely well in the current season.
Apart from the busy multi-sport programme, Curro Mossel Bay's Linél Engelbrecht and Mossel Bay entrepreneur, Rohan Swanepoel, participate in both the Eden XCM and Eden XCO series, where they are serious contenders and regular podium winners.
Linél will also be taking part in the remainder of the Southern Cape Spur XCO series, having missed the first race hosted at Klipheuwel MTB Park, Little Brak River, in favour of the final duathlon league event that was held at NMU Campus in George on Sunday.
Not to be forgotten is the young Joshua Vorster, who is following in his father's footsteps and at a young age proving to be a formidable athlete.
Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format similar to triathlons. It is physically demanding.
Joshua and Linél have to complete a 2.5km run, 10km time trial cycle and 1.25km run and Rohan a 10km run, 40km time trial cycle and 5km run in the fastest time possible.
