The story of York's 2024 matrics is so much more complex than the success indicated by a raw set of numbers.
This class was impressive in terms of resilience – starting their high school careers in the chaos of Covid and finishing with an impressive set of Grade 12 results.
The space between was filled with kindness, respect, a huge commitment to serving the community and the school, and a determination to overcome whatever obstacles lay in their way.
There were learners who had lost parents and learners whose families were experiencing traumatic events at the time of the examinations – all of these not only passed but achieved entrance to bachelor studies.
The total subject pass rate was 99,9%, which was also a notable achievement. Thank you to all our feeder schools, but especially Outeniqua Primary and Holy Cross, for the wonderful learners they send us.
York remains a centre of excellence in South Africa where excellence is measured not only in academic, sporting and cultural results but in the character that lies within, so that our learners can live lives not focused on worldly success but instead live lives of true significance.
