NATIONAL NEWS - The family of a five-year-old girl, who was reportedly grabbed from her mother at her Vanderbijlpark school, has confirmed that the kidnappers have demanded a R2-million ransom for her safe return.
Amy Lee de Jager is the daughter of F1 powerboat driver Wynand de Jager.
The family member told Rekord the kidnappers pushed De Jager’s brother out of the way to get to her outside the Kollegepark Primary School.
“Her brother scraped his knee and has already seen a school trauma counsellor. He is safe with family at the moment,” the family member said.
According to the family member, the kidnappers only contacted Wynand once this morning for the ransom. It is not clear how he was contacted.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed De Jager was still missing at around noon on Monday.
However, Makhubele could not confirm the R2-million ransom.
“Police do not have any knowledge about a ransom at this stage,” he said.
Residents of Gauteng were urged to be on the lookout for a white Toyota Fortuner containing four men who reportedly took De Jager.
The vehicle reportedly had no number plates.
