The 47-year-old from Osizweni apparently lured the girl away from her friends before assaulting her in a toilet in 2013.
The police’s Thulani Zwane says, “The accused grabbed the [child] and he raped her. A case of rape was then opened at the Osizweni police station for further investigation. Through investigation by the New Castle Family Violence and Child Protection Sexual Offences Unit, the accused was then arrested and charged for rape.”
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years behind bars in the Northern Cape High Court for various sexual offences.
Rudolph Coetzee was convicted on 45 charges including rape, sexual assault, and attempted rape and for manufacturing child pornographic material.
The images involved children between the ages of three and 12.
