NATIONAL NEWS - Jacaranda FM radio presenter and TV personality Rian van Heerden is currently recovering in isolation in a Centurion hospital from Covid-19 after he was admitted to have a kidney stone removed early this week.
“I have been better,” the usually cheeky presenter said in a telephonic interview while in hospital.
Van Heerden is expected to be discharged by Sunday if the doctors are satisfied with this recovery.
This follows after he was admitted to hospital on Monday to remove a kidney stone.
Due to the currently Covid-19 outbreak, Van Heerden was screened and tested and put into isolation before being admitted to hospital as part of their Covid-19 procedures.
Fortunately, he was diagnosed positively for the virus in the early stages of the infection.
Around 02:00 Van Heerden had a rude awakening when he was told of his positive test results.
Van Heerden has praised his doctors at the hospital and said he was being kept in isolation as a precaution due to his other medical conditions.
His mother was also diagnosed with Covid-19 in July this year, but has since fully recovered.
He further said since the beginning of the pandemic he has stated that everyone will eventually get the virus.
“Most of the people don’t even know they have Covid-19 because they do not show any symptoms.
“I didn’t show any symptoms either.”
On 23 September, a press release of Van Heerden’s Covid-19 test result status was posted on the Jacaranda FM Scenic Drive Facebook page.
“TV presenter, producer and the host of ‘The Scenic Drive with Rian’ on Jacaranda FM, Rian van Heerden tested positive for Covid-19,” it read.
“I apologize that I have been so scarce behind the microphone for the last month or so. It’s as if a myriad of medical issues simultaneously formed the perfect storm. Being 46 is not for sissies, especially not with my type of lifestyle. So kidney stone is out today, but from tomorrow in self-isolation with my Covid-19,” Van Heerden wrote on Facebook.
Van Heerden has thanked his followers and fans for their support.
“I read every message and it is nice to know there are people out there who care.”
