NATIONAL NEWS - A father convicted of beating to death his three-month-old daughter in Montague has been sentenced to an effective 13 years in jail.

Eugene Plaatjies was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court today.

He fatally assaulted his daughter, Anthonique Alkaster, in 2014.

Judge Nolita Khose sentenced Plaatjies to six years for child abuse and neglect, 13 years for murder and a year for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
