Manqele, 26, who admitted to fatally stabbing her lover at his Alexandra home in March, spent the night behind bars after her lawyers abandoned their attempt to extend her R10 000 bail. Throughout her trial Manqele has insisted she stabbed her 38-year-old lover in self-defence.
However, Judge Solly Sithole dismissed Manqele’s claims, saying her version could not possibly be true.
The judge will hear Manqele’s bail application on Thursday in the High Court sitting at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and will most likely give the murder accused a date for sentencing.
After Sitole found Manqele guilty on Wednesday, the late musician’s mother, Pearl Habedi, later said: “I felt relieved, we can start healing it’s been a tough road”.
