NATIONAL NEWS - An 8-year-old boy was impaled by the handle bars of his bicycle yesterday afternoon (25 April).

Netcare 911 paramedics responded and treated the child, after receiving a report that he had ridden down a steep embankment when the bicycle wheel dug into a hole.

The boy was flung forward and impaled by the handle bars.

Paramedics found the child in a critical condition. An advanced life support paramedic and his crew stabilised the patient, before they transported him to a specialised hospital in Durban.
