The party says this money could have been used to launch a Metro Police Department, which has been more than five years in the making.
The municipality is remaining mum on its plans to launch the long-awaited service in the region.
The municipality employed Metro Police Chief Pinkie Mathabathe in February 2014 at an annual salary of over a million rand.
The DA's Athol Trollip is demanding answers.
“She earns over a million rand a year but she has no metro police people underneath her authority.”
Trollip says even though plans to establish the Metro Police Department has been gazetted, it's unlikely to become a reality anytime soon.
