NATIONAL NEWS - At least fourteen people have been shot in a mass shooting in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The incident occurred in KwaMakhutha, Durban, on Tuesday night, 22 September.
Shooting
Police said at least eleven of the people are dead, while three others were wounded in the attack.
All the victims – including a pregnant woman – were together at a house in the Ziko area before 23:00, when gunmen rushed in and opened fire on them.
Manhunt
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects who allegedly shot and killed eleven people and injured three others.
“Information available at this stage suggests that thirteen men and one woman, who is believed to be pregnant, were reportedly having a party inside a house when three men arrived and opened fire on them. Ten victims, including the woman, died at the scene, and four were taken to hospital; one of them succumbed to gunshot injuries.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the victims were on Crime Intelligence’ radar in connection with illegal activities which police cannot divulge at the moment to protect investigations which have been launched,” Netshiunda said.

Motive
Netshiunda said KwaMakhutha Saps and the eThekwini District Tracing Team are at the scene.
He said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.
“Although the motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed yet, a feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out.”

Condolences
Meanwhile, KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli is expected to visit KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, on Wednesday, following the tragic shooting.
Ntuli’s spokesperson, Lindelani Mbatha, said the premier will visit the scene to assess the situation and engage with law enforcement officials, community representatives, and affected families following this devastating incident.
“The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. The incident has left the community in profound shock and grief,” Mbatha said.
