MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The finalists in the Miss DA competition are there for far more than simply having a pretty face.
These young ladies were chosen for their ability to act as influencers. According to one of the pageant organisers, acting as a mentor, Zanele Toti, who is the reigning Mrs KwaNonqaba, the Miss DA event was conceived several years ago, but has been dormant.
This year, it is not only back in full force, but better.
To participate, entrants have to be 17 to 35 years old and a listed member of the DA.
The 14 finalists had a workshop on Saturday, 21 May, at Munro Manor, where they were coached in the art of public speaking, as this will be an important part of their work in the community.
News editor of the Mossel Bay Advertiser, Cornelle Carstens, who often speaks in public, shared a few pointers with the young ladies.
Councillor Marilyn Kannemeyer was also present at the workshop.
Part of the finalists' community work includes visiting the various wards to do charitable work. This includes providing meals to the needy.
They have also visited a facility for the aged in KwaNonqaba, where they pampered the seniors.
The crowning of Miss DA takes place on Youth Day, 16 June, at the Mossel Bay Town Hall.
