Brigadier Gerhard Labuschagne, the chief of the police's investigative psychology unit, testified for the state.
He rejected the findings of the defence psychologist in which she said the accused was temporarily insane during the assault on his baby son.
Labuschagne said her findings were inappropriate.
He was the last witness in the witness stand and Magistrate Daniël Boks postponed the case until 11 November for written arguments.
