GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - For the past twenty years, at the end of April and the first week of May, Knysna has been home to one of the most exciting LGBTQ+ celebrations in the world - the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival.
During the festival locals showcase their hospitality, diversity, fanfare, and festive spirit - the backbone of the event.
A notable accomplishment of Pink Loerie is the successful charity drives for local charities. The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival is, therefore, a time of celebration, but a celebration with purpose.
As part of the annual festival (which, for Covid-19 related reasons, was not hosted in full swing), a campaign is run for the rest of August and September called “Tickle me Pink for Tourism”.
This initiative is to remind people to book accommodation for the next festival. The accommodation partners are on the festival website, with direct links to the accommodation websites.
Knysna comprises out of mainly tourism driven businesses that have been hard hit during the past few months. As the home base of the festival, the organisers want to show their solidarity with the town and residents.
Assist this venture by recording a 10 to 15 seconds long video clip (impromptu and on your mobile), stating your name and surname, or your performer name, and that you support the “Tickle Me Pink for Tourism” campaign. The video clip can be e-mailed to office@pinkloerie.co.za or sent to 083 347 9570.
These recordings will be edited into short promotional clips to be used on social media.
