MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A kindhearted Mossel Bay hairdresser has come up with the helpful idea of collecting water to send to Cape Town hairdressers.
Lynn Honiball of Partners hair salon in Da Nova, says: "Although people are not talking about it all the time, the water shortage in Cape Town is still a problem."
Hairdressers use much water in their businesses, especially for washing out the excess colour when they dye hair.
Lynn says: "I know of hairdressers in the Cape who have closed their businesses because of the water problem and ones that ask their clients to bring water with them." The water is heated in a kettle.
She has rallied her hairdresser friends in Mossel Bay to join her in donating water to their Cape Town colleagues. Lynn calls her friends the "veteran" hairdressers because they have been in the business for many years.
She said she had the idea of donating water over a glass of wine with her friends.
Lynn is finding a collection point for the water and it will then be transported to Cape Town.
She challenges hairdressers and beauty salon owners in town to join in the drive to donate water to their colleagues in the Cape. There are at least 30 hairdressers in town, Lynn estimates.
"Everyone in our area - hairdressers in George and Oudtshoorn for example - should also take part in this," she urges.
Anyone keen to donate water should contact Lynn (044 690 4491), Monika Langmaak (044 690 3727), Marius Erlank or Mike (044 695 0616) or Friedrich Marais (044 690 6190) to find out about drop-off points.
Lynn concluded: "We buy our products in five litre containers. These can be washed out and used for water."
