MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The school community was reeling this week after learning of the death of a Grade 10 learner at Hillcrest Secondary School.
The teenage girl is reported to have committed suicide on Monday evening, 6 July.
An informed source reported that she was living with her grandmother at the time of her death.
"It is with deep sadness that I can confirm that the WCED is aware of the passing of a Grade 10 learner. The WCED will be providing psychological support and counselling at the school. Our condolences go to the family, friends and the school community," said Millicent Merton of the Western Cape Education Department.
Merton urged all learners to seek support when they feel they need help and in times of desperation. "They can contact the Safe Schools Call Centre (0800 45 46 47), Childline or the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG)."
