Teen pageant queen heads for national competition

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - For 15-year-old Mamello Mofokeng, the modelling stage is where she belongs.

Her modelling journey began at the age of 10, when she was a Grade Four learner in Mossel Bay.

She told Mossel Bay Advertiser she gave up on this hobby while she was still in primary school, but decided to put on her high heels and her best dress again this year and give it another shot.

Since then, Mamello has competed in three competitions in George, Mossel Bay and Cape Town. She was crowned Miss Charity Junior Kwanonqaba, Miss Thembalethu 1st Princess and Ambassador, and Teen Queen, Public Choice and Ambassador.

Her outstanding performances have earned her a place as a Western Cape ambassador for Face of Devotion, a South African modelling pageant.

She will grace the stage during the final round of the pageant’s national competition in Gauteng later this year, going head-to-head with contestants from each of South Africa’s nine provinces.

“Many people misunderstand modelling,” says Mamello. “It’s something fun, and if you lose, you can always try again at the next pageant.”

When she is not on the catwalk, Mamello is a learner at Garden Route High School in Mossel Bay. She is also a dancer and spends her free time dancing and practising her walk.

Mamello hopes to keep pursuing her passion and dreams of one day opening her own modelling academy. “I want to teach others the same and introduce them to modelling and dance,” she says.

Before she can put on her best dress and her best high heels in Gauteng, Mamello will be participating in the Face of Devotion’s modelling camp on 2 October.
