MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Teachers from Garden Route, Groot Brak, Imekhaya and Isalathiso primary schools were treated to fun and games at the Tsogo Sun Garden Court Hotel on 26 October by the Garden Route Casino and the Garden Route Casino Community Trust (GRCC).
This event followed the participation of the schools in the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life programme recently.
The Moves for Life programme uses chess as an educational tool. The children learn mathematical skills, science and life orientation skills and chess also enhances their language development.
The programme has been implemented in more than 130 schools and since 2011 more than 1 000 educators have been trained to teach the children, with phenomenal results.
Teachers having fun figuring out the Tic Tac chessboards and pieces. Tic Tac is both a chess teaching tool and a strategy game. Each player has four pieces: a knight, a rook, a bishop and a pawn.
It was the second time the Teachers' Awards Tournament was held in Mossel Bay.
The teachers participated in four games and had much fun. Tsogo Sun delegates and heads of departments were present at the event as well as trustees from the GRCC.
The general manager of Garden Route Casino, Ryan Nicolas, also participated in some of the games.
Tsogo Sun staff Hamish Cairns, Karen Johnstone, Ryan Nicolas, Zelna Steyn and GRCC trustee Michael Carelse, who hosted and also participated in the Teachers' Award Tournament.
