MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality has confirmed that the tap water in the greater Mossel Bay area is 100% safe for human consumption and complies fully with SANS 241 standards.
The tap water has been tea-coloured after the point from which the water is withdrawn from the Wolwedans Dam, was changed.
There are several withdrawal points at different levels (depths) in the dam. Due to the recent good rainfall in the catchment area and subsequent inflow from the Ernest Robertson Dam to the Wolwedans Dam, the Department of Water and Sanitation had to change the point of withdrawal. Rainwater flowing into the dam has made the water more tea-coloured.
The laboratory tests this week prove that there are no problems with the drinking water quality, with both the chemical and microbiological levels 100% compliant with the standards, the municipality reported.
In some neighbourhoods in Mossel Bay the colour of the water has not changed. Areas such as Monte Christo, Hartenbos Estate and Little Brak River are supplied from the Sandhoogte plant, while other suburbs such as Danabaai, Vleesbaai and Boggomsbaai are located at the very end of the distribution network and are therefore not affected to the same extent.
Mossel Bay Municipality apologises for the inconvenience.
