MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay resident posted a photo on a Facebook group of strange sea creatures that washed up on Diaz Beach.
She asked participants on the group what the creatures were.
It turns out they are a species of small, blue sea slug, called Claucus atlanticus, a shell-less gastropod mollusc.
These sea slugs are pelagic. They float upside-down by using the surface tension of the water to stay up and are carried along in the water by the winds and ocean currents.
Picking up the animal can result in a painful sting, with symptoms such as nausea, pain and vomiting.
The reason they washed up on the beach is not yet known.
