Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Scores of people have been left displaced with reports of people exiting parts of KwaNonqaba in droves following suspected xenophobic attacks that saw several people's homes set alight last night 29 May.
Videos and photos of people fleeing Asla Park, some with bags and suitcases, others with just the clothes on their back, were sent to Mossel Bay Advertiser by an Asla Park resident this morning, 30 May.
The Mossel Bay Municipality said municipal resources were fully deployed and that it is aware of several structure fires involving wood and iron structures.
The municipality said it activated social services yesterday, did profiling of the needs of the people who had been displaced and support has been mobilised.
It said it has made a central venue available where displaced persons can be accommodated but that several individuals chose to stay elsewhere.
The municipality also stated that the unrest remains largely contained within the KwaNonqaba area and is not affecting other areas or routes
It urged residents to keep access routes clear at all times, maintain a safe distance from active scenes, to not interfere with personnel or equipment and to respect the safety of all operational staff.
A media enquiry has been sent to the police. An update will be provided as soon as more information has been received.
