MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The spectators' pavilion at D'Almeida Rugby Stadium is currently without a roof.
Mossel Bay Advertiser enquired to the municipality as to when the roof would be replaced.
The municipality noted that after the pavilion roof sheets blew off during two windstorms in the second half of 2023, the roof was removed fully as an emergency measure to allow use of this municipal facility to continue safely, while the insurance process was being finalised.
On enquiry by the Advertiser, the municipality noted that the roof replacement would cost about R900 000.
The municipality stated: "At this stage, an indication cannot be given regarding an exact date for the replacement of the roof."
Negotiations pending
It noted that negotiations with the insurers were pending.
"Generally, following damage to municipal infrastructure, an insurance claim is made, accompanied by the necessary reports and quotations, whereafter an assessor investigates and upon approval, repair work ensues by an appointed contractor."
The municipality's statement read: "It must be noted that there is sufficient, safe training and match space for local rugby and other clubs who regularly use the facility's A field and other practice areas."
